Vehicle tracking is one of the most cost effective security and management tools available to vehicle owners in Ghana. Whether you are protecting a personal car against theft, monitoring a salesman who drives a company pickup between Accra and Kumasi, or running a small rental fleet, a tracker pays for itself many times over within the first year of use.
Apex Fleet provides vehicle tracking that works the same way for one car as it does for one hundred. We install hidden GPS hardware, connect it to your account, and give you a clean app on your phone where you see live location, trip history, and instant alerts. This page explains everything you need to know before you put a tracker in your vehicle.
Who installs vehicle trackers in Ghana
Private car owners
Theft remains a real worry in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and other major cities. A tracker protects your investment, helps the Police recover the vehicle quickly if it is stolen, and gives the family peace of mind when a teenager or relative borrows the car.
Business owners with company vehicles
When a vehicle is assigned to a salesperson, project officer, or technician, the owner often loses sight of how it is used. Vehicle tracking restores that visibility without any uncomfortable conversations. You see how much the vehicle is driven for business, when it is parked, and how it is being treated.
Car rental and ride hailing operators
Rental cars and ride hailing fleets need to know where every vehicle is at all times. Apex Fleet supports geofences for permitted areas, alerts for after hours use, and integration with rental booking systems. Some customers add the engine cut off option for additional security.
Asset finance and vehicle loan customers
Banks and finance companies often require a tracker as a condition of vehicle finance. Apex Fleet is recognised by most local lenders and we provide the documentation they need on completion of installation.
Families and individuals
Parents installing trackers on cars used by young drivers, older drivers, or family members travelling at night appreciate the ability to check on a vehicle quietly without phone calls.
What you can see and do with the platform
Live location
Open the app and see the vehicle on a map, with speed, direction, and time of last update. The location refreshes every few seconds while the engine is running.
Trip history
Every trip is recorded with start time, end time, route taken, stops along the way, and total distance. You can replay any trip on a map.
Speed and driving alerts
Set a maximum speed for the vehicle and the platform alerts you when it is exceeded. Useful for company vehicles, learner drivers, and any situation where speed needs to be controlled.
Geofence alerts
Draw a virtual fence around home, office, or any area you choose. The system alerts you when the vehicle enters or leaves. Combined with working hours rules, this catches unauthorised after hours use immediately.
Tamper and theft alerts
If someone disconnects the device, moves the vehicle without ignition, or attempts to interfere with the wiring, you get an instant alert.
Engine cut off (optional)
For high value or high risk vehicles, we can install hardware that lets you remotely cut the ignition. This is used responsibly, usually in coordination with the Police, to immobilise a stolen vehicle and slow it down so it can be recovered safely.
How vehicle tracking works in Ghana
The tracker is a small device wired to the vehicle battery and ignition. It uses GPS satellites to know its location and the mobile phone network to send that location to our servers. Every few seconds the device sends an update. When you open the app, the data is already there, ready to view.
In remote areas with weak phone signal, the device stores location data and sends it as soon as the signal is restored. So even on a route that crosses thinly populated parts of the Volta or Northern regions, you eventually see the complete trip with no gaps in the record.
Installation in practice
Our certified technicians install vehicle trackers at our workshop in Accra or at your home or office by appointment. Installation takes about an hour. We hide the device, neaten the wiring, test the signal, and register the vehicle in your account before handing the keys back. Your account is set up with your phone number, your alerts, and the people who should have access.
For customers outside Accra, we coordinate installation with technicians in Tema, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, and other major cities. We also send installers to project sites when needed for fleet rollouts.
What it costs to track a vehicle
You pay a one off cost for the device and installation, then a small monthly subscription that covers the SIM data, platform access, alerts, and support. The exact cost depends on the device model you choose, whether you add the engine cut off option, and the length of subscription you choose. Multi year subscriptions reduce the monthly cost. We send a clear written quote so you know the total cost before you commit.
Vehicle tracking and insurance
Several insurance providers in Ghana offer reduced premiums for vehicles fitted with approved tracking devices. Apex Fleet works with major insurers and we provide the installation certificates needed to apply for any discount. If you finance the vehicle, your lender may also require a tracker as part of the loan conditions.
Privacy and responsible use
Vehicle tracking generates sensitive personal data. We protect that data with strong encryption, role based access, and clear audit trails. We never sell tracking data, and we never share it without legal authorisation. We also advise customers to be transparent with drivers, family members, and employees about the presence of tracking. Trust survives a clear policy. It rarely survives a surprise.
What to do if your vehicle is stolen
Call our recovery line immediately. Our team locks the device into high frequency reporting, shares the live location with you and with the relevant authorities, and supports you through the recovery process. The hardware continues to report from inside the vehicle even after the engine is switched off, so the longer the device has been installed, the better the chance of recovery.
Why customers in Ghana choose Apex Fleet for vehicle tracking
We are based in Accra and we treat every customer the same, whether they have one car or one hundred. The hardware is reliable, the app is easy to use, the support team picks up the phone, and the pricing is honest. Many of our customers started with a single vehicle and stayed with us as their fleet grew. If you want a long term partner for vehicle tracking in Ghana, you are in the right place.
Request a demo using the form on this page, send us a WhatsApp message, or call our Accra office. If you are managing more than five vehicles, read our fleet management guide next, and if you operate larger trucks, the truck tracking page is the right next stop. For drivers on two wheels, see motorcycle tracking.
Hardware options for different vehicle types
Not every vehicle needs the same tracker. A small saloon car driven daily around East Legon has different requirements from a project pickup running between Accra and a mining site in Western North. Apex Fleet stocks several hardware models, from a low cost device that covers basic tracking and alerts, to a mid range device with backup battery and engine cut off, to a premium device that adds driver identification, fuel level sensing, and CAN bus data for diagnostics. Our installer recommends the right option for your vehicle and your budget after a short conversation about how the vehicle is used.
What the dashboard looks like
The Apex Fleet dashboard is built for speed. The home screen shows your vehicle list and a live map. Click any vehicle and you see today's trip, the last known location, speed, ignition status, and any alerts. From there you can dive into history, geofences, reports, or driver behaviour. The interface is the same on a laptop and on a phone, so a manager who learns the platform at a desk has no trouble using it on the road. Many customers tell us they preferred the simplicity of Apex Fleet over the more cluttered platforms they evaluated.
Adding tracking to an existing fleet
If you already have trackers from another provider and they are not working, switching is straightforward. We assess the existing hardware, remove it cleanly where required, install Apex Fleet hardware, import any historical data you want to keep, and onboard your team on the new platform. Customers who have switched to us almost always mention three things: the platform is faster, the support is more responsive, and the alerts actually arrive. We treat switching as a normal part of our work and we make it painless.
Long term partnership
Buying a vehicle tracker is not a one off purchase. Hardware lasts for years, software gets better, and the operation grows. Apex Fleet stays with customers for the long term. We update the platform regularly with no extra cost, we run quarterly check ins with larger customers, and we treat warranty and replacement claims fairly. Your tracker is not the most important thing in your business, but it should be reliable enough that you never have to think about it. That is what we aim for.
