Motorcycles move a huge part of Ghana's daily economy. Same day deliveries in Accra, food orders in Kumasi, document runs in Tema, courier services in Takoradi, and personal commuting across every city all happen on two wheels. With that volume comes a real problem. Bikes are easy to steal, easy to misuse, and very hard to track once they leave the yard. Motorcycle tracking solves all of that.
Apex Fleet installs GPS trackers built specifically for two wheelers and connects them to the same fleet management platform used by truck and bus operators. The result is full visibility over every bike you own, protection against theft, and accountability for every rider you employ.
Why motorcycle tracking matters in Ghana
In 2024 and 2025, motorcycle theft increased noticeably in several urban areas, and bikes that disappear without a tracker are almost never recovered. At the same time, delivery operations have grown rapidly. Food platforms, e commerce stores, and last mile couriers run hundreds of bikes daily, and the only way to manage them at scale is with proper tracking.
Tracking also addresses the everyday problem of rider behaviour. Without visibility, owners have no idea whether a rider is making the deliveries assigned, taking unauthorised personal trips, or letting friends borrow the bike. A tracker turns that uncertainty into hard data within hours of installation.
What our motorcycle hardware does
Live location every few seconds
The tracker reports the bike's location, speed, and direction at short intervals while moving. The dashboard shows every bike on one live map, colour coded by status, with the rider's name and last update time.
Trip history with stops and idle time
Every trip is stored with start point, route, stops, idle time, and end point. You can replay any trip and see exactly where the bike went and how long it spent at each location.
Movement and tamper alerts
The device alerts you if the bike moves outside permitted hours, if the device loses power, or if it detects unusual vibration that suggests tampering. Alerts arrive by app notification, SMS, or email.
Geofence rules
Define zones the bike should stay within. For example, a courier company in Greater Accra can set a geofence that covers the operating area and get alerted whenever a bike leaves it without authorisation. Geofences also work for restricted areas where bikes should not go.
Speed alerts
Set a maximum speed and get notified when it is exceeded. This is especially valuable for delivery operations where safety and brand reputation depend on disciplined riding.
Engine cut off for high value bikes
Optional hardware adds the ability to disable the engine remotely. This is used in coordination with the Police to safely immobilise stolen bikes and recover them.
Operations that use motorcycle tracking with us
Food and grocery delivery
Delivery platforms operating in Accra, Tema, and Kumasi use tracking to dispatch the closest rider, share live ETAs with customers, and resolve disputes about late deliveries with hard data.
E commerce last mile
Online retailers running their own delivery fleets reduce theft of merchandise, prove proof of delivery, and improve route efficiency by reviewing actual versus planned trips.
Courier and document delivery
Same day couriers handling confidential documents and small parcels use tracking to confirm chain of custody, monitor turnaround time, and protect riders carrying valuable items.
Pharmacy and health deliveries
Pharmacies delivering prescription medication need clear evidence of when items left the store and when they arrived with the patient. Tracking provides that record automatically.
Field service teams
Telecom, utility, and maintenance teams using bikes to reach customer sites benefit from tracking that confirms attendance, time on site, and route taken.
Personal and family bikes
Individuals protect personal motorcycles with the same hardware. Many customers install trackers as soon as they buy a new bike, particularly in cities where bike theft is common.
Installation, training, and support
Our technicians install motorcycle trackers in 45 to 60 minutes per bike. Installation can be done at our workshop in Accra, at your premises if you have several bikes, or at courier hubs by arrangement. After installation, we onboard your dispatchers and managers with a short training session and provide a written guide for everyday tasks.
Ongoing support is delivered by our Accra team in working hours, with WhatsApp, phone, and email support. For larger fleets we provide a dedicated account manager and quarterly review meetings.
Integrating tracking with your delivery operation
Larger delivery operators do not want to switch between their dispatch app and a separate tracking dashboard. Apex Fleet offers an open API that lets you pull live location, trip data, and alerts directly into your existing system. This is the model used by several Ghanaian e commerce and food delivery platforms that operate on Apex Fleet hardware.
Pricing for motorcycle tracking
Pricing covers the device, installation, SIM data, and platform access. For larger fleets we offer volume discounts and multi year terms that reduce the monthly cost per bike. We send a written quote tailored to your fleet size, the hardware option you choose, and whether you want engine cut off.
Common questions from delivery operators
Many operators want to know how to introduce tracking without losing riders. The honest answer is that good riders welcome tracking because it protects them against false accusations from customers and proves their work. Difficult riders sometimes object, and that itself is useful information. We have helped several operators introduce tracking across their teams without losing experienced riders, by being clear about the policy, explaining how the data is used, and rewarding the riders who score well on the new system.
What to do if a bike is stolen
Contact our recovery line immediately. We lock the device into high frequency reporting, share the live location with you and with the relevant authorities, and where engine cut off is installed, we coordinate the right moment to immobilise the bike. The faster you call, the higher the chance of recovery.

Battery, signal, and weather considerations
Motorcycles in Ghana operate in heat, rain, dust, and the occasional flooded street. Hardware that works fine in a controlled laboratory often fails in those conditions. The trackers we install on bikes are sealed against water ingress and rated for the temperature range bikes actually experience. The wiring is heat shrunk and tucked away from any moving parts. Devices are mounted in positions that protect them from impact during a typical drop or minor crash, while still maintaining a clear path to the sky for the GPS signal.
Battery health is a real concern on delivery bikes that spend the day starting and stopping. Our hardware draws very little power and does not discharge a healthy battery overnight. For bikes that already have weak batteries, our installer flags the issue before installation so you can plan a battery replacement and avoid blaming the tracker for an unrelated electrical fault.
Rider safety and accident response
Tracking is not just about loss prevention. It also helps you respond faster when a rider has an accident. The platform records harsh impact events and sudden stops, and you can configure alerts that notify your dispatcher immediately when one of these occurs. Combined with the rider's last known location and contact details, this means help can reach the rider faster, which matters in a country where road traffic injuries remain a serious health challenge. Several customers also use the data to build internal safety scorecards and to reward riders who maintain a clean record over time.
Working with delivery aggregators and gig platforms
Many riders in Ghana work across multiple platforms. If you contract riders rather than employ them, tracking still makes sense because the asset is yours. Apex Fleet lets you confirm that bikes are being used for legitimate work, monitor wear and tear, and protect the bike if the rider stops working with you. We have helped several fleet owners structure rider contracts around tracking so the expectations are clear from day one.
Maintenance scheduling for bike fleets
Bikes that run heavy delivery duty need service more often than personal bikes. The platform tracks each bike's mileage in real time and reminds you when a service is due. You can pull a fleet wide maintenance schedule for the week and plan workshop time to keep bikes in rotation without unplanned downtime. For larger fleets this is the difference between a working fleet of fifty bikes and a working fleet of forty bikes with ten sitting idle.
